27-06-06 Brakes are back on

Got some new brake lines made up by www.hampshirehose.co.uk yesterday, fitted those and all the calipers back on last night. Just need some rear brake pads and we can bleed the brakes.

Found a receipt for cambelt change, and also inspected the cambelt, looking in tip top condition, so thats one job not required.

Fitted the missing woodruff key to the alternator as the replacement alternator we bought off ebay was lacking this vital tiny 54p component!

Sorted out a man to come and fit a new windscreen on saturday morning, cheapest we can find is £108+vat. More than the car cost, but we haven't been able to find a secondhand screen so will have to go for new.

MOT re-test booked for monday at www.verwoodmot.co.uk , thanks again to Tony and Adrian.

25-06-06 Fixing the MOT bugs

Did some work on the Quattro at the weekend.

Managed to get the seized piston out of the caliper on the drivers side by pumping the brakes and then many whacks with a soft mallet. The piston cleaned up ok with a good bit of wire brushing and buffing, but would not fit back in the caliper bore, so out with the drimmel and clean all the rust up from the caliper. In with new seals and all seems well. Also resealed the passager side caliper.

I found some speed bleeding nipples tucked away in a box in the garage, so decided to fit those to the rear and front calipers. Couldnt find the bleed nipple on the passenger front caliper because some arse had snapped it off! Off with the caliper and out with the drill and a tap. Managed to get the old nipple out very cleanly. All the calipers are now cleaned up and ready to go back on.

I have removed the hard brake pipes at the front, bit of a mess as the nuts were very corroded. Need to get a new set made up and refitted.

Other things to sort for the MOT, Rear brake pads, the windscreen and I think we should get a new cambelt fitted ASAP as there is no record of it being changed in the huge file of service history.

Other less urgent bits that the old beast could do with, front brakes disks and pads, air filter.

22-06-06 Karting, £242 Raised

Many thanks to all those that enjoyed an evening of karting. Hope you all had a great time.

We sold 130 Raffle tickets at work during the day and in the evening, a number of people also donated money. Therefore the final pot of cash to the lucky winner is £65, the remaining £70 will be donated to Cancer Research. We held the draw after the prize giving, and the lucky winner is................... Balin Cao.

We raised a total of £242 pounds, £70 from the Raffle, £112 from the extra £4 we charged for each karter and £60 from the karting centre as they did not charge us for 2 of the drivers. Thank you very much for all your generosity.

14-06-06 New Rad, Sounds & MOT

Our new (secondhand) radiator arrived today, many thanks to a nice man on ebay that supplied us the radiator including postage for £20. Hopefully I will get time tomorrow evening to fit it in and run the beast again!

Had a look at the sound system that came with the car, we will need sounds as I'm not sure we would be able to put up with each others conversation for that many hours! Found 2 speakers in the dash, only half the cone was left on each speaker! Luckily found some speakers in my garage that are good and the right size, so that’s the front sorted. Next had a look at the rears, again a pair of very old knackered speakers! No more replacements lurking in my garage, so I posted a wanted ad on the Corrado Forum. Big thanks go to Henny and NickVR6 for donating a pair of 6x9's a sub woofer and an amp. The Audi is going to rock!!!!!

Booked up the MOT for next Tuesday, my local MOT station www.verwoodmot.co.uk has kindly agreed to MOT the Audi for us, for nothing. Many thanks to Tony and Adrian, top lads.

More news on the MOT on Tuesday, all fingers crossed now!

06-06-06 Sad news

All of our team members have friends and family that have suffered from Cancer in the last few years, hence our reason for choosing Cancer Research to raise money for.

On Sunday I received sad news from my parents. A very close friend, Mike Freeman passed away over the weekend. He had been suffering from Bone Cancer for a number of years. I guess I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Mike, as he introduced my parent’s way back in the sixties! I know Mike will be a great loss to his family and friends.

Today I also found out the sad news of a fellow Corrado owner passing away. I regularly visit and post on the the-corrado.net , this is forum for owners of the VW Corrado (our team name teamrado comes from 3 of the team driving Corrado's). I was very sad to read that one of the members of the forum, Stormin Dave had suffered from Cancer and passed away recently. The forum are raising money to help Dave’s wife Jo to store Dave’s Corrado away for their 4 year old Son Joshua, so that he can drive his dad’s car once he is old enough.

Raising money for Cancer Research seems even more fitting now. Please help us to reach or exceed our target of £2000 by visiting Just Giving.
