28-05-06 Picking up the Audi

We had a slightly eventful afternoon picking the Audi up on Saturday, myself (Brookesy), PeteMate and Winkle made the trip up to Gillingham. First job was to fit the re-con'ed alternator that I had found on ebay for the pricely sum of £20. Nearly continued the theme of nasty injuries when installing the alternator, lots of sparks and swearing when the live wire grounded out on the alternator body as we were fitting it!!

Once that was done it was time to pay Chris (the seller) his £100 and fill in all the Paper work.

The Audi had been sitting for a while so it was reluctant to start on not firing on all cylinders, but once it was warmed up all was good.

So time to get the beast home, Steve won the toss to drive home, Steve and Pete then followed me back to my house. As per usual I had a heavy right foot, but I was impressed with how the Audi was keeping up. It seems to go well for the size, Steve will be adding a drivers report later on as he is the only one that has driven it. We were a little unsure if the alternator was charging, so Steve drove most of the way in the pissing rain without windscreen wipers as they use electricity!!!

Once home we decided to get the multimeter out to see if the alternator was charging, but just as I was about to get the multimeter the radiator exploded with a huge cloud of steam engulfing myself and PeteMate, PeteMates shorts took the brunt of the steam. We also found that antifreeze doesn't taste so nice!!! Unfortunately we had forgotten to switch on the radiator fan switch on the dashboard (the auto fan switch doesn't work) which lead to the steam room extravaganza!!!

So an eventful day, but very pleased with our buy. More pics to Follow.

24-05-06 To Russia with love!

The SAAB is on its way to St Petersburg Russia!!! Put the SAAB on ebay last week, not much interest until monday evening when I received an email asking if we would sell it for £150 now. Sounds like a deal to me! It was picked up from my house last night and taken up to Tilbury by a couple of Russian guys for it to be shipped off to Russia in the next few days. Its pretty cool that the SAAB is off another adventure.

We will be picking the Audi Avant up this saturday, so stay turned for more pics and news.

21-05-06 New Car Found

So looks like we have found our new car. Its a bit special!!! Audi 100 Quattro CS Avant. Lovely 2.3 5 pot engine, 4 wheel drive out of the UR Quattro, very Rally! Found on ebay being sold with an UR Quattro, but the buyer of the UR Quattro didn't want the Avant. Went to see it on saturday and immediately recognised the guy selling it, we had meet at a few VW meets.

It's got plenty on miles under its belt.....256,000. Seems very sound apart from a slightly sticky rear caliper, brakes could do with doing at the front and no alternator.

Will be good to have a VAG car instead of that swedish thing! Here are a couple of pics that I took on saturday.

18-05-06 The SAAB is a gonna

We have decided not to procede any further with the SAAB, replacing the engine or an engine rebuild is to time consuming for us all at the moment, so the SAAB is now on ebay . Once the SAAB has gone we be looking for another car, with hopefully a running engine this time!
